After months of preparation, the 2nd #REGIS Summer School has finally started! About 40 Ph.D. students from across Europe (and beyond) gather in the beautiful premises of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid 🇪🇸 for a 4-day intensive class on #innovation. With lectures from top innovation scholars including Andrea Mina, Carlos Serrano, emilio raiteri, Michael Rose, Markus Simeth, Frank Neffke, Catalina Martínez, Fabian Gaessler, and Cornelia Lawson. Students could again count on the great support of Google and the commitment of Steve Gong. We also have a strong line up of mentors to provide feedback on students' papers, notably Andres Barge Gil, Stefano Baruffaldi, Sofie Cairo, Martin Hétu, Ester Martínez-Ros, Eduardo Melero, Ernest Miguelez, Raffaele Morandi Stagni, gabriele pellegrino, and David WehrheimSpecial thanks to Neus Palomeras, the local host who has tirelessly worked on getting the summer school off the ground!

📢 To my #STI policy friends: Don't miss this webinar on "Democratizing #Data: Discovering Data Use for #Research and #Policy" on May 21-21 from 12 pm to 2 pm EST. It will present ideas on using data and AI tools to support evidence-building in public policy and science. Authors of the recent special issue in the Harvard Data Science Review will present their work, addressing how best to increase access to a broader community of users and democratize data, providing both practical insights and a vision for how bottom-up collaborations and communities of practice can help shape the future.➡ More information: https://lnkd.in/eznex3pR

We had a great time at the STIP retreat in Crans-Montana, discussing and commenting on each other's research ideas. Nice combination of serious work and fun activities in the inspiring Swiss Alps. Thank you Timothy Simcoe, Stefano Baruffaldi, Markus Simeth, Fernando Stipanicic Márquez, emilio raiteri, gabriele pellegrino, Wolf-Hendrik Uhlbach, Dr. Egbert Amoncio, Matthias Sahli, Franziska Kaiser, Tsung-Han Chu, and, last but not least, Atin Aboutorabi without which this event would not have been as good 🙏

... and the paper is available in #openaccess, so there are now no barriers to getting started with the analysis of patent data (other than having a GCP account, of course).PS: The community owes a lot to Google patents and the USPTO Office of the Chief Economist. But also to IFI CLAIMS Patent Services, which provides some of the underlying data! 🙏
