In the title compound, C30H19IN2, two independent mol­ecules (A and B) are present in the asymmetric unit, with different conformations. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the carbazole systems for mol­ecule A is 49.1 (2)° compared to 84.0 (1)° for mol­ecule B. In the crystal, numerous aromatic π–π stacking inter­actions [shortest centroid–centroid separation = 3.7069 (19) Å] help to establish the three-dimensional supra­molecular network.

Geometry. All esds (except the esd in the dihedral angle between two l.s. planes) are estimated using the full covariance matrix. The cell esds are taken into account individually in the estimation of esds in distances, angles and torsion angles; correlations between esds in cell parameters are only used when they are defined by crystal symmetry.
