It did not take long for Scottie Scheffler to take a lead at the 2024 Memorial Tournament. But it did take work to keep it.

After Adam Hadwin remained at 6-under par with an even performance in the second round, Scheffler used three birdies on the front nine to get into the top spot. But two bogeys brought Scheffler and Hadwin back together, keeping them tied at 6-under as the second round neared its end.

That’s when Scheffler made his move.

On hole 15, Scheffler used a 306-yard drive and a 225-yard second swing on a 3-iron to set up and sink a 9-foot eagle putt, keeping Hadwin at arm’s length for the remainder of the second round at 8-under par.

“(I) felt like I had a good number and it's nice when I have a number where I want to cut it and the pin's on the right and that was one of those instances,” Scheffler. “So I was able to hit a really nice shot in there pretty close to the pin and hole the putt.”

Heading into the second round, Hadwin and Viktor Hovland hold on to second place at 6-under, while two golfers are tied for fourth at 5-under, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Keegan Bradley.

While Scheffler wasn't initially fazed after landing landed his fourth shot just over 9 feet from the hole, he missed the putt and instead recorded his first bogey of the day and his second of the tournament.
